2024 Avalanche Forecast Survey

The Colorado Avalanche Information Center, the Avalanche Research Program at Simon Fraser University and the U.S. National Science Foundation National Center for Atmospheric Research are conducting research to examine how backcountry recreationists (for example, skiers, mountain snowmobilers, snowshoers and ice climbers) interpret avalanche forecast information.

The goal of this survey is to better understand how useful different kinds of avalanche forecast information are for trip planning.

We are interested to hear from backcountry users of all experience levels. The results of this study will offer important insight for making avalanche forecasts more effective for everybody.

As a token of our appreciation, participants who complete the survey before April 15, 2024 will be entered in a draw for 5 fantastic prizes. Click here for more information.

We understand this acknowledgement to be a starting place for further reflection on historical and ongoing settler colonialism and for ongoing critical self-location. In addition to this statement, we hold ourselves accountable to meaningful learning and action at home, in the office, and on the skin track.
